The skeleton of this piece of peace was inspired by two very simple things: the outline of a pair of earrings I saw, and frog eyes.   

For some reason from the beginning of its creation, Rep. Ilhan Omar @ilhanmn was heavy in my thoughts. For her courage in the face of cowardice. For naming the brutality happening in Palestine at the hands of the Israeli government, and for standing up to the threat against her, her family, our Muslim family members and all oppressed people around the world.

On March 15, 2019, a little over a month into this heartwork, Christchurch happened. Two consecutive mass shootings occurred at mosques in a terrorist attack in Christchurch, New Zealand, during Friday Prayer. The murderer, praised Donald Trump in his manifesto, dubbing Trump as a symbol of renewed white identity. Terror is a faithful companion of white delusionism. This peace became my prayer to the family members of everyone we lost that day as well as a piece that honors how the people of New Zealand come together. 

May this be a floating place of worship that hate cannot reach. A tangible shield for all of our women in office right now, facing death threats from cowards, still holding up the truth. Respect.
