Make. Slow. Electric.
Make. Slow. Electric.
This piece may just look like animals to you. To me, it represents a monumental shift in my work. This was the first time I have ever drawn animals. For 8 years, I convinced myself that I could not draw animals. One day, I got the courage.
Make. Slow. Electric represents my journey.
As an independent, self-taught artist who has been practicing for 9 years, I have come to terms with the fact that my path to sustainability through the art is slow. For 8 of those 9 years I worked a 9-5 to get by. Now, after one year of full time art, I am dealing with the emotions of having to go back to the 9-5 in order to have enough to support myself and my family. After 3 months (as I am writing this) I have still not found a 9-5. Maybe I am just not meant for that world anymore?
Make. Slow. Electric is simply a reminder to me.... that although I do not yet have the resources or fame to be self sustained... if I continue to make the climb electric, I will someday reach my dream. These animals are all slow movers, but each have very special electric powers in our world. If you want a special treat.... research the ecosystem a sloth carries in its fur. Both turtles and snails have a special lore. I too will be remembered. I too, will create an ecosystem that may move slow, but will have the ability to hold me, and my village.
